On Thursday the 25th of July, Year 6 attended an In2UNI trip to get a better understanding of what to do in university. We split up into groups depending on what you wanted to study, we took our parents with us so they knew about Uni as well. We all enjoyed our trip and we hope to do it again soon.
We were in our different groups until lunchtime, when we had free time to run around and eat our food. After lunch we participated in the In2UNI race together as a school, for this activity we had to run around the Uni completing activities as we went - it was great fun for all of us. Meanwhile the parents went off to do their own thing and get a coffee, but then at the end of our trip three of the mums went missing and we had to alert Mrs Hickey and search from them.
This was a very entertaining and beneficial trip for us all and I believe it encouraged many of us to go to Uni and achieve our goals for the future. Hopefully next year’s Year 6 will be able to participate in this excellent program and if you do I highly recommend that you choose visual arts. In visual arts we were able to let our artistic side shine through as we participated in fun artistic activities. But the choice is yours - all in all it was one of the best school trips you could ever have and I hope everyone can experience it. We would love to thank Mrs Hickey and all the parents that went with us and also a big thank you to Wollongong University who invited us to come and see it.
On the 25th of July 2013 all of Year 6 attended a day at the University of Wollongong, participating in a course called In2UNI. Our parents were invited to come with us to the Uni. When we got there we split into our different chosen faculties. The Faculties were: Faculty of Medicine, Nursing, Engineering, Creative Arts,
Arts, Education and Science. We all went to different locations for our different subjects. Some of the students at our school (including Brooke and I)
chose Faculty of Nursing, we learnt how to bandage a mannequin, resuscitation and how important it is to wash your hands before you touch the patient. We put orange special liquid on our hands and rubbed them together (our hands turned orange), then we washed our hands with soap, then they examined our hands with a fluro light, which they placed over our hands and if orange showed you had germs on your hands.
Then we had a recess break and had time to play in their GIGANTIC sport’s hub. After recess we broke into our school groups and had a huge race around the Uni, school against school. We had to complete several different challenges together as Year 6. It was lots of fun. Then we had lunch and got to play. Four people from the dragons came and were signing posters for free.
After lunch we went into the UOW lecture room, where we watched parts of movies and related it to real life at University. We had to answer several questions about the films. Afterwards the leader challenged us by shooting questions at us.
We had a FABULOUS day and hope that the Year 5 students will have as much fun as we did. We would also like to thank wonderful Mrs Hickey for organizing it all, the In2Uni team for inviting us and our great parents for supervising us on the day!
