Our involvement in the Live Life Well program and associated grant has enabled us to purchase equipment to support our Physical Education program at school. There are gym mats, balancing equipment and lots of other goodies yet to be unpacked. Thank you Mrs Hickey and Ms Calligaro for organizing the purchase of this equipment.
Thanks to Richie Bennett we now have a new garden to welcome students, visitors and parents into the school from the Mt Keira Rd entrance. It was too big a job to tackle on our own, so Richie has done all the hard work and classes and the green team will now maintain it. The natives that have been planted should do very well in this location. They will take some time to fill the space but it will be interesting to see all of the plants grow!
The SRC has chosen to fundraise for children in our community who are recovering from illness or accidents and have to spend a long period of time in hospital. Last Thursday, 5 September, the SRC walked down to the Wollongong Hospital to meet with some of the staff, including one of the teachers at the hospital’s school, to see what it is like to be in hospital.
Anita, the fundraising coordinator, spoke about all the different types of rooms they have and what it feels like to be in the hospital for a long stay. She spoke about how it feels to stay in hospital overnight and all day and how children can feel lonely, scared and bored. That is why they have special rooms like the school room, games room and play room.
We also spoke to the school’s teacher who told us all about the activities they run including a music program. They have decorated the rooms with bright colours, photos and pictures to make the children’s ward more positive and comfortable.
It was a very interesting visit and it made us think a lot about how it would feel to be away from home while not feeling well.
This coming Monday, 16 September, we are running a sausage sizzle and spider meal deal for $5 – the money raised will go towards helping sick or injured children in our community. We hope you can support us by ordering this meal deal by this Friday.
All students participated in the Life Education Van lessons over three days. This is a wonderful experience for them all and the program fits in very well with the Personal Development aspect of the PD/H/PE syllabus in the area of drug education and healthy eating. Seeing Harold is always a highlight!
