Classes spent time on Friday 30 August planting out shrubs and grasses in empty spaces in our gardens around the school. These plants will need to be cared for and watered regularly to help them establish good root systems before summer.
On Friday 23 August members of the Dragon’s education team came to school for the first of three training clinics. During the sessions students will be taught the basic skills of league, focusing on ball handling skills, movement and dodging. This is a great opportunity for our Year 3, 4, 5 & 6 students.
On Wednesday last week, Yee, James, Tilly, Christine, Jaryd, Elliot, Nikola and I went to the 2013 Literary Lunch. There were over 15 authors and illustrators there. Each of them gave a 3 minute speech about themselves and their books. We also got a free book and a booklet to get their autographs.” Marlee
“My favourite part was when Nathan Luff was giving us ideas about how to write a book.” James K and Matilda
“It was really fun. Dianne Bates, one of the authors, asked me for a joke. I told her, “What do you get when you cross a kangaroo with a sheep? A woolly jumper.” She used my joke in her talk! That was my favourite part.” Jaryd
Yesterday, Tuesday 20 August, the Book Fair and Book Character Parade were held. Students looked great in their book character costumes and it was wonderful to see that most students remembered to bring along the book as well.
The Book Fair was well attended and due to your purchases, the library will receive about $300 worth of new books for the library. Thank you for supporting the Book Fair.
We hope you had a good look at the fantastic murals in the library that the classes made for Children’s Book Week nominated books.
Wow, what a performance!! Congratulations to the 103 students who participated in Wakakirri this year – you were all FABULOUS!!!
We chose to make Wakakirri a student driven activity. The students discussed and decided on the theme; choreographed their routines; and suggested music for their groups. They all did a fantastic job of planning “New Kids on the Block” and bringing their ideas to life!
We are so proud of the way all the students looked out for each other, worked as a team and performed so well on stage.
Thank you again to all the parents and family members who helped out to make this night so special:
Mrs Cleary, Mrs Fleming, Ms Newsham, Ms Waugh, Ms Vlaska, Mrs O’Connor, Mr O’Connor, Mrs Sanderson, Mrs Kilincarslan, Mrs Cutler, Mrs Howarth, Mrs Rogers, Mrs Davis, Mrs Douglass, Mrs Parker, Ms Korda, Ms Crowe, Enea’s Uncle Mick and all of our amazingly talented parents and carers who helped to create our costumes and props.
A special thank you to Mr Norington (Lily’s Dad) for lending us his truck for the day; and organising the loading, unloading and stacking of the props (including a very late pick up at the end of the night).
Also, thank you to Mrs Borst, Mr Watson and Miss Gregory who helped the primary teachers backstage on the night.
Mr Akhurst has put his photos of the night on 5A’s webpage. (More photos here)

Thanks again to everyone who helped out this year and to our amazing students who worked so hard in rehearsals and performed so brilliantly on the night.
What a wonderful two days. Mrs Hickey and Mr Akhurst were very proud of our students and were very pleased to report that our students were always where they were supposed to be and performed extremely well. Mrs Hickey would like to especially thank the students that worked as helpers over the days.
A very special mention goes to Charlie P, who won the Junior Girls Shot Putt and will now be representing the District at the Regional Athletics Carnival on Friday 23 August in Canberra. A great effort, Charlie. You hide your power very well!
