When we formed the classes at the beginning of the year, there was always the possibility of our numbers increasing to enable the formation of a 10th class. We have now reached the ‘magic number’ due to a much larger number of new and unexpected enrolments this year, We are turning 9 classes into 10. This will result in a reshuffle of some students and classes, but not all. Please bear with us as this reshuffle occurs as some students will end up in different classes with different teachers. We will try very hard to keep this to a minimum, but some changes will be unavoidable.
We will be working out the classes this afternoon and at this stage we think there will be: KR, KT, 1M, 1S, 2D, 2/3C, 3/4W, 4/5W, 5/6H and 5/6M
The school swimming carnival was held on Thursday 5 February at the school pool. There were great house cheer squads, lots of spectators cheering the competitors on and some fabulous results. Thank you to the organisers of the event and to everyone who assisted with crowd control, starting, marshaling, timekeeping and recording.
Students in Years 1 – 6 met for their first house meetings yesterday. Each house has elected their house captains and vice captains for the year. Congratulations to:
Booroo: C – Chris and Joanna, VC – Rhys and Sophie A
Narara: C – Jayden and Enea, VC – Isaac and Claudia
Dinewan: C – Bryce and Karla, VC – Zac, Marko and Emma M
These students will be busy organising for the school swimming carnival on Thursday 5 February (tomorrow)!
The parents, carers and extended family members who volunteer for us are a valued part of our school. Volunteers assist in many ways - home reading, group work, P & C activities, swimming, sporting events, drivers and much more. A requirement of volunteering in schools is that the Parent Helper Agreement and Declaration and that 100 points of identity is provided at the beginning of each year. If you have not already done so, and you wish to volunteer in 2015, please ask at the office for the forms and provide your identity evidence.

New Assistant Principal
We welcome Miss Deborah Main to our school. Ms Main will be teaching 5/6M and she is very excited about being at our school and is looking forward to meeting her new class and getting to know all of her students.
Successful Grant Application
In 2014, the school applied for funding under the Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program to establish a memorial garden and install a plaque to commemorate the Australians who served in the First World War. We have just received a letter informing us that our application has been successful. Work on the garden will commence as soon as the relevant documentation arrives and we formally accept the offer.
The garden will be built in the area around our flagpole.

Year 6 Farewell and Disco Fun
The Year 6 Graduation, Farewell and school disco were held on Monday 15 December. The graduation ceremony was wonderful with Year 6 students being presented with their graduation certificate and then another certificate of a lighter note. There was a slide show of photos from Kindergarten to Year 6 and the students sang a song to conclude the ceremony. Following the ceremony the staff and Year 6 students had a special dinner and this was then followed by a whole school disco. Wishing our outgoing Year 6 students all the best for their next education journey at high school.
Miss Calligaro and the SRC held a fantastic Rising Stars on Friday 12 December. There were 2 divisions: K – 3 and 4 – 6. The audience was entranced by the great variety of acts and everyone performed extremely well. Congratulations on your fabulous efforts.

P & C News
Thankyou & Congratulations!
Thankyou to everyone who attended the P&C AGM on Thursday the 5th. It was a good meeting tackling a number of topics and I was very pleased to see some new faces at the AGM. The new 2015 executive committee was elected at the AGM. Congratulations to the following people;
It’s a strong executive team with committed individuals who will drive beneficial change throughout the school community.
The Welcome BBQ is this Thursday. This is a great chance to meet other families of our school community. Both new and existing families of Wollongong West Public School are welcome! Bring a picnic blanket and snacks. We'll bring the sausage sandwiches. It should be an enjoyable time for everyone.
Also don't forget to put the 15th of March in your diary for the working bee. A working bee is a time when parent volunteers come and do a number of small jobs that are needed to help beautify the school and make it a better place for our children. It is a great opportunity to meet other parents and to do something positive for our school.
Do you have any questions, ideas or suggestions about how to improve our school community? We would love to hear from you! Parents and citizens coming together to support our school is what P&C is all about. You can email email@example.com or come to any P&C meeting. New parents are always welcome.
Regards – P & C Executive Committee
The next assembly will be held on Wednesday 4 March. The assembly commences at 2.10pm in the hall. The leaders for this assembly will be Eriks and Sophie S. Parents, carers and family members are always very welcome to attend our assemblies.
