What's On at the 'Gong
Wakakirri - 2014
On Tuesday 12 August the choir students for 2014, along with Mrs Morrissey and Miss Calligaro, celebrated their Choral Festival achievements with a party and cake. They each received a ribbon to commemorate their participation in the 60th year of the festival, shared in the great party food and had a slice (or 2) of the very yummy cake. Congratulations and well done to you all.
Science Enrichment Group
This term we have six students attending the Science Enrichment program at WHSPA every Tuesday afternoon. Yesterday, 12 August, the students were making electromagnets and then recording how many paperclips it could hold with different numbers of coils around the bar. It was very interesting watching the students make the circuit so that the electricity would travel through it and then getting the electromagnet to work.
Premier’s Spelling Bee
On Monday 11 August the school final of the Premier’s Spelling Bee was held at school in the hall. The following students have made it through to the Regional Final which is being held on Wednesday 17 September at Farmborough Road Public School. Congratulations to:
In the afternoon, the whole school had open classes. Teachers gave students light bulbs to decorate and write positive messages about school. Parents were welcome to come and see what we do in class.
Here is some writing that students in KR did during the Open Classrooms time on Education Day – Wednesday 30 July.
I like my school because we have chickens. We go to library, computers and swimming. We do work and cut out stuff. I like doing groups. I play with my friends.
I like my school because it has a quiet area and play equipment.
Thank you to all of the parents who came to our school on the day to celebrate Education Week 2014. Really, every week is Education Week, last week just formally acknowledged it.
On Wednesday 30 July our school had an Open Day for Education Week. The Year 5’s were the leaders for the Jump Rope For Heart session - which meant we had to set the stations up and we had to lead our groups. Every student from Kindergarten to Year 6 was given a number so our groups were a mixture of people from every class. There were 15 different stations and most of them involved skipping, jumping and being active. There was also a station where you had to “pin the heart on the body” and a station where you had to use the iPads to interview your group members about Jump Rope For Heart. Next, we went into the hall to perform our skipping routines on the stage. Millar was an awesome dancer – the whole school went wild when he was dancing on stage and the Year 5 leaders showered him in WOWW tickets!By Isaac, Joanna and Rachael
Our chooks are laying eggs!
This week we found 2 eggs in the chicken house. They were light in colour and are ready to eat. Hopefully we start getting some more soon. They will be available for purchase from the front office.
Baiden and Bennett
On Wednesday 23 July our school choir participated in the Wollongong Schools’ Music Festival at the Town Hall. Our choir was at the very front of the massed choir which gave a great view of them all. We were all very proud of their performance on the night. A huge thank you to Mrs Morrissey and Miss Calligaro for preparing the choir over the past two terms.
The next assembly for 2014 will be held on Wednesday 20 August. The class item will be by KT. The leaders for this assembly will be Brenden and Razan. Parents, carers and family members are always very welcome to attend our assemblies.
The P & C needs your help with the upcoming Halloween Carnival. Please send into school items suitable for sideshow alley prizes, packets of wrapped lollies, packets of mini chocolate bars, novelty item and small toys. With your help in donating some of these prize items, the outlay costs for the Carnival will be reduced, therefore increasing the profit that will benefit the students at the school – your children.
