Year 6 Farewell and Disco Fun
The Year 6 Graduation, Farewell and school disco were held on Monday 15 December. The graduation ceremony was wonderful with Year 6 students being presented with their graduation certificate and then another certificate of a lighter note. There was a slide show of photos from Kindergarten to Year 6 and the students sang a song to conclude the ceremony. Following the ceremony the staff and Year 6 students had a special dinner and this was then followed by a whole school disco. Wishing our outgoing Year 6 students all the best for their next education journey at high school.
Miss Calligaro and the SRC held a fantastic Rising Stars on Friday 12 December. There were 2 divisions: K – 3 and 4 – 6. The audience was entranced by the great variety of acts and everyone performed extremely well. Congratulations on your fabulous efforts.
Gold Award Celebration
On Thursday 11 December 25 Gold Award students (3 were absent) had their morning tea to celebrate their outstanding efforts in following our PBS values throughout the year. Congratulations on your commitment to our school values.
There was a group of very hard working volunteers at school doing community volunteering for the day on Thursday 4 December. Nigel Sanderson brought his work team to school and they moved barrow loads of mulch into the front garden and spread it for us. The original plan was to paint the games again, but the weather was not being very cooperative. We appreciate the assistance and thank the team very much for their hard work under very hot and muggy conditions.
Dragons Super Clinic
On Friday 5 December the Dragons Super Clinic came to Wollongong West PS. Students came early for a healthy breakfast and games and activities. A special assembly was run by the clinic and our gold award students were all congratulated by some of the players. The classes were then broken up into groups for skills development and talks. A very special event for our special students who raised over $4000 at Jump Rope for Heart. Students received a pack with some Dragons goodies in them which was an added bonus.
Stage 3 Cataract Dam Camp
Stage 3 students had a great 3 days at Cataract Scout Camp from Monday 1 – Wednesday 3 December. The photos here are just a few of over 700 taken and in every one the students can be seen having a wonderful time on the high ropes, abseiling, caving, eating, rock climbing, obstacle coursing, water sliding and generally having fun together.
Kindergarten Orientation Presentation
Kindergarten 2015 children and their parents have been involved in the Kindergarten Orientation program for three Fridays this term. The final session was held on Friday 28 November. The children were presented with a special certificate that has a calendar on it so that they can cross of the days remaining until they start ‘big school’.
Thank you to Mrs Risi for organising Kindy O, the office staff for setting up the goodies, Mrs Poljasevic as P & C contact and organising the goodies, Year 5 for being great buddies and Year 6 students for assisting with setting up the chairs in the library.
On Friday 21 November the primary students attended the long awaited Gala Day. Although the forecast was for a very hot day, a breeze helped to cool things down a bit and students all had hats, ice and cold drinks. It was a great day of fun and competition.
Congratulations to all of the students who represented our school – you were fabulous ambassadors.

The position will be taken up from the beginning of 2015 by Deborah Main (following the conclusion of the appeal period). P & C News
P & C Update Bunnings BBQ – great result!
It was certainly a hot and humid day on Sunday and all of the volunteers put in a huge effort. The great news is the BBQ raised a net profit of $1,613.24, which is a fantastic result! The P&C would like to sincerely thank all of the people who contributed to making this day a successful event.
December P&C meeting – last meeting for 2014.
The final meeting for 2014 has changed location from the staffroom, to the Wollongong Bunnings BBQ! With short notice the Bunnings team have asked if our P&C can cook for their special Christmas event. This is a great opportunity to finish the year strongly and take advantage of a final fundraising opportunity for 2014.
The BBQ kicks off at 4 and the (not so) formal meeting at the usual time of 7.30. If you’re able to help with the BBQ anytime between 4 and 8pm, feel free to drop in. Look forward to seeing you then.
