We are all looking forward to a great year of teaching, learning, fun and activity for students and staff. Parents can assist in making this a great year by ensuring that students arrive at school between 8.30am and 9am each school day, attend school every day unless they are genuinely sick and be ready and prepared for each school day.

Little Learning Lab Stars
Emily H and Josephine attended the Little Learning Labs at UOW during the holidays. Emily went to ‘Physics Energisers’ and learned about particles. Josephine went to ‘Let’s learn about Mandarin Chinese’ and learned some Mandarin. Both girls attended 2 days, had a great time and said that they would love to go again and would recommend Little Learning Labs to others.
House Captains 2016
Following voting at the House Meetings we congratulate the following students on their new leadership roles:
School Swimming Carnival
On Tuesday 9 February, WWPS had their school swimming carnival to decide who was going to the Unanderra Pool to select the team for the district carnival. We started with freestyle, then breaststroke and lastly backstroke. There was a lot of excitement within the school. Booroo, Narara and Dinewan were all cheering for their team members in the races. The new house captains and vice-captains organised cheers and kept their house groups in line.

If you are in Year 3, 4 or 5 and would like to join the band, please ask Mrs Reade for a note.
Life Education Van
The Illawarra Life Education NSW Mobile Classroom will be visiting our school in Week 6 of this term. The van will be at our school from Monday 29 February to Thursday 3 March.
Life Education is the largest non-government provider of drug and health education to children and young people, Australia wide. They have a vision of all Australian’s enjoying life free from the effects of drug misuse. Their mission is to empower the young to make the best choices for a safe life, through excellent drug and health education programs.
All classes will be attending the mobile classroom during the visit. Primary 3-6 lessons are for an hour and a half and infant (K-2) lessons are for one hour.
This year we are very fortunate and appreciative, to have the P&C donating the money to cover the cost for every child to attend the Life Education Mobile Classroom. The P&C recognises the importance of this program and feel that every child should be involved.
The sale of Harold merchandise, while the Mobile Classroom is at Wollongong West Public School, is a way you can support Life Education. Please take a look at the Harold Merchandise sheet which is included in this newsletter.
This year we again have book packs. In 2014 all classes will be using a handwriting textbook, dictionary (Year 1) and the school magazine (Years 3 – 6). The costs vary from grade to grade, depending on what they will be using:
Students will be given their books once they are paid for. Student assistance or a payment plan is available for any families that need it.

P & C News
There are a number of exciting things being planned by the P&C for this year.
Instead of our normal Welcome Night, this year we are having a WWPS Family BBQ and Big Camp Night Out on Friday, March 4.
This night of family fun will start with a family BBQ from 5-7PM. For those that would like to stay, this will be followed by the Big Camp Night Out. We'll be camping at the school with games and family fun organised under an Olympic theme. There will even be a campfire! So save the date and bring your tent or swag. More information will be coming soon.
On Sunday, March 13 the P&C is hosting a “Bash and Build” Working Bee! All ages welcome. You don't need to be a member of the P&C to attend. It's a great way to get rid of stress and help the school at the same time. We hope to see you there!
The P&C held their AGM last Thursday evening. It was a time to reflect on the many successes of last year and look ahead toward continuing to support and enrich our school community through the efforts of our parents and others. The executive for this year will be:
