Caring for Teeth with Tanya
1M went to the hall to see Tanya who talked to us about our teeth. She brought her teeth mirror. She used it to have a look at people’s teeth.
Yesterday, Wednesday 15 July, we had a visit from Tanya. Tanya taught us how to look after our teeth. She taught us bacteria live in our plaque. If we don’t look after our teeth the bacteria eats holes in them.
Year 6 Toy Sale
On Thursday the 25th June, Year 6 had a Toy Sale to raise money for the year 6 shirts.
During the toy sale, we received many interesting toys. With the help of some wonderful year 6 parents, the toys were displayed on the benches and all the children rushed to buy toys varying in price from 50c up to $5.
It was a very successful sale as most of the toys were sold out. It was a fantastic day and our thanks go to Sharon Cleary for organising the wonderful toy sale. Thanks also go to the year 6 people who assisted with selling the toys.

Ladies in the Muslim community joined some staff members at an Eid-al-Fitr celebration on Thursday 23 July. This was to celebrate the end of Ramadan. The event was celebrated with Arabic coffee (quite a flavour sensation), food, and dancing. It is hoped that later in the year our whole school community will get together for a cultural celebration of food, conversation and dancing.
Painting Working Bee
The P & C and volunteers had a lovely morning on Sunday 21 June. There was a mix of painting of the snake and hopscotch games and completing the Memorial Garden around the flagpole. Both tasks were completed with assistance from parents, teachers and students. Thank you P & C for organising the working bee and to all the volunteers who came along and helped.
Choir Cluster Rehearsal
Imagine a day full of fun and singing, well that’s what we experienced. On Wednesday 17 June the choir set off on a bus to Corrimal East PS. From the second we got off the bus, we were all excited to start singing.
Our first song was ‘Live Louder’ which got us wide awake. Then after singing a few songs we had a short lunch break. We then got seated quickly to start singing again, but instead of singing together we split into firsts and seconds.
A couple of songs had solo’s and from our school Matilda and Lisa tried out and did a fabulous job. Matilda
got the solo for ‘Listen to the Music’ – she has a beautiful voice.
After recess we did some more singing but then unfortunately we had to come back to school. So I recommend being a part of choir next year
On Monday 22nd June our Year 6 students attended an enrichment day at Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts (WHSPA). The day was designed to provide the students with a taste of life in high school. They participated in a range of activities including science experiments that tested water acidity and surface tension, creative writing, dramatic expression, visual arts, and sporting activities. It was a great day and all of the students were enthusiastic and very well behaved. They all also were treated to a barbecue lunch provided by WHSPA students. A further transition to high school day will be held on Thursday 3rd December 2015.
On Friday 26 June all of our students were invited to attend the WOWW reward disco. Students have worked hard to earn the WOWW awards needed to achieve the reward of the disco. The disco was a great success and everyone enjoyed the extra time provided for some very impressive dancing.
During the holidays Mrs Reade and the GAs started work on the new outdoor learning area and bush tucker garden. The framing for the steps is almost completed and the steps will be filled with gravel. Garden edging is arriving this week and will be installed as soon as possible.
Fundraising for SCARF
Thank you for supporting the SRC Refugee Week mufti day on the last Friday of Term 2. The $286.75 raised will go to SCARF (Strategic Community Assistance to Refugee Families). SCARF is a fantastic organisation in Wollongong. They assist many refugee families, including families from our school community.
Miss Calligaro and the SRC
The Memorial Garden around the flagpole is now complete. The plaque was installed on Friday 26 June. A very big thank you to the volunteers who helped with the spreading of soil, planting and mulching of this new garden.
School Athletics Carnival
Students, staff and visitors had a great day on Friday 5 June for the school Athletics Carnival. The carnival ran very smoothly thanks to the wonderful organisational skills of Mrs Hickey, the volunteers from WHSPA and the staff working on each event.
A significant number of students are going on to represent our school at the District Athletics Carnival on 23 & 24 August. Congratulations and well done everyone!
Community Notice Board
Uniform Shop As a result of the demands in the office, a decision was made for the P&C to take over the running of the uniform shop. As you are aware, the uniform shop is open Thursday and Friday afternoons from 2.30 – 3.00pm. This is a volunteer position. If anyone is able to volunteer some of their time in the mornings, your help would be much appreciated.
The office does not and has never had EFTPOS facilities. Could you please ensure you have the correct money when paying for items as we do not carry change.
It is very important we have up to date contact and emergency contact details. Please ensure your details are current. If not please let the office know as soon as possible.
Remember to check your child’s bag for notes on a daily basis and pay particular attention to due dates.
Star of the Week
Ashton has had a very busy holiday break playing soccer at a 2 day camp. His efforts have paid off and now he is off to the National Camp on the Gold Coast with the West Ham Coaches. There will be over 300 kids from Australia and New Zealand at the camp. What a fantastic effort, Ashton.
Your motto must be “I put 150% effort into everything I do”.
Returned library books
Well done to all the students who returned overdue library books and a big thank you to parents too, for their help in finding the books.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
Congratulations to all the students who have completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge! We receive the certificates in Term 4 and they will be handed out then.
Children’s Book Council Literary Lunch
Each year the Children’s Book Council South Coast – Illawarra branch hold a literary lunch for students from local schools, where they meet many of their favourite authors and illustrators. Schools are only allowed one table and only 8 students from each school can attend. Students will be invited to attend on the basis of completion of PRC, borrowing record and proven interest in literature. This year the very popular author Jacqueline Harvey will be the main speaker.
Mrs Reade has been busy creating her own website. Please take the time to have a look.
